∞∞ Imagination is a curious thing. It is the catalyst of the mind; it transitions into style, life and adventure. Imagination can be as sporadic as a warm summer thunderstorm, or as solid as your grandmother’s cooking on a Sunday afternoon. A Focused Imagination hopes to bridge the gap between the whimsical and the practical. Enjoy our journey as we hope that it finds you in the midst of yours. When Thieves Knew Better

I apologize for the lack of fresh photos, however my camera has been stolen. I will be returning from Mexico next week and will soon have another camera in my possession. Until then, I figured I would share some illustrations that display some of the punishments our fellow ancestors felt were suitable for thieves and criminals of this sort. Yes I know they are a bit intense, but I can imagine that thieves did think twice before stealing. And to the thief with my camera...good luck finding a charger in Mexico...idiot.

My Recent Habit

Since arriving in Mexico, I have been fascinated with the number of boleros, or shoe shiners. It's a rare sight in the U.S. these days, so I have taken advantage of visiting the bolero weekly to get my Quoddy boat shoes cleaned up. It's evident in the US that this staple of the past is fading on account of many modern spoilers. Down towns are becoming less important, the idea of walking somewhere to most Americans is absurd, and lets face it...most men just don't care about their appearance as much. It's ashamed because there is something about climbing up into that chair, opening a newspaper, and getting your shoes prepared for the world that makes you feel like a man...And I think the men of today could use a weekly reminder of that.

All your future lies beneath your hat. - John Oldham

If all you future lies beneath your hat, as says the great colonial poet John Oldham, make it a good one. I really like the shape of this guys hat; not too stiff, but not so flimsy that it doesn't allow you to shape it. Although it's probably true this guy could care less, his effortless attitude has a lot to do with making it look good. Go find a hat that represents you and your future.

A Trip Told in Food

Last week, I set out on the road with a good friend to New Orleans. As a first time visitor, I was taken back by the city’s unique sense of charm and equally audacious menus. I am not much of a crawfish young man myself, however it may have been the magic ways of Louisiana or just the heavy cream that garnishes every dish that converted me. My love for food is an understatement. Perhaps what is even stronger though, is my fondness for adventures with friends. I think Marie Antoinette was on to something when she muttered those infamous words, “Let them eat cake.” However, she obviously never tried Cafe Du Monde's beignets. The following are a few photos of my time in the great dirty dirty.

The Wax Seal and Return of the Letter

From Focused Imagination

Once upon a time, people would correspond with hand penned letters. Letters of love from war, respect and camaraderie would be hand delivered to the awaiting recipient. And although I appreciate our progress, it’s fun to free hand your thoughts beyond a wall post. I bought a wax seal with my initials on it a couple of years ago and it’s mighty cool. Summer may take your friends, but make sure it doesn’t keep them. Write a letter. Keep a friend.

What I Found: Life Behind Black and White

These photos are really cool. When I see things like this, I can't help but to think of the story behind the photo. Seriously though, it's kind of amazing when you imagine the life behind black and white.

Summer in Shorts

From Focused Imagination
Shorts are wonderful. I don’t think it’s as serious or divisive of a matter to say that there are two types of people-those who prefer shorts and those who prefer pants. But, I will say that there is something intrinsically adventurous about shorts that I find so interesting and appealing. So, whether your adventures are on the streets of New York or in your backyard in South Texas, do please wear some shorts.

Loud Noises in Austin

A quick disclaimer to all those who suffer from epilepsy- Do not attend an Animal Collective concert. I went to their show this past weekend in Austin and it was an adventure of the senses. It was chaotic, fun and I still feel a bit dirty. Here's to a boisterous summer.

A Grand Farewell

I leave for Mexico in the morning, and I will be there for six weeks. God gave me a loud send off tonight with some powerful thunderstorms, and I figured I would share the view out my window. Turn up your volume and relax a bit to the noise of those Texas rain drops.
